Unloading Sleepers at Brechin

If you feel you could offer some help in the worthwhile task of preserving a key part of our heritage for future generations, perhaps you would consider joining our supporting organisation, the Brechin Railway Preservation Society (BRPS).

Running a preserved railway requires effort and dedication, but is a fascinating, varied and rewarding task. The railway is always looking for people who can spare a few hours of their time every week, every month or even every year to take part in the ongoing task of running and maintaining the railway and enhancing its facilities and attractions.

We need people of all ages, and special skills are not required - any training needed can be provided. Enthusiasm is the main quality we're seeking! If you join our team you can be sure your help will be well-used. There are endless jobs to be done:

painting buildings and coaching stock

track maintenance and trackside clearing

engineering tasks to keep the locos in service and to work towards bringing further stock into use

help on running days in the ticket office, on the platforms, on the trains and in the shops

... and much, much more

Volunteer facilities

If you are interested in volunteering at the Caledonian Railway but think you live too far away to help, then think again! Why not spend a few days at Brechin helping out with operating and restoring the railway?

We have a specially-converted volunteer accommodation coach on site which features two double bedrooms, two singles and a living / kitchen area. The station has showering facilities, and the pub is just over the road! The coach is by no means a five-star hotel but it is warm and convenient, while accommodation is free for volunteers. The coach is often referred to as "Chez Joy" after the volunteer who originally purchased it for use on the railway.

If you are thinking about spending a few days with us, then either drop us an email or call on 01356 622992. Room service will be notified!
